Whether you've got a quick 2 hour celebration in the books or have an 8 hour day planned, I love to encourage couples to start thinking through what the timeline of their wedding day will look like-- especially as it pertains to photography-- about 1-2 months before their wedding. You may have already created a Day of Timeline, which is awesome! This is helpful information you can hold up to your current Timeline to make sure everything looks like it will unfold practically.
I've photographed many an 8 hour wedding and many a 2 hour wedding, and after lots of interactions with couples, I've put together what I think is the best of my knowledge to help you plan an awesome wedding day that either 1) Includes photography 2) Or, revolves around photography (for some of you, it's all about the photos, and for the rest of you, it's about keeping the photos candid).
This Timeline Guide will walk you through a sample NYC wedding timeline (Yes! This whole guide is specific to NYC as it can sometimes be tricky to navigate a wedding in the city-- unless of course, you're planning accordingly thanks to my guide), as well as give you ideas of what couples tend to want to give their time to on their wedding days.
Disclaimer: Your wedding is yours and this guide is just a guide-- it's not law. We're not married to it (although by the end of this, somebody will be getting married!). But I find it's helpful to couples when they want to get the ball rolling or need an idea of how much time it takes for certain photos.
After reading through this guide, I do recommend you conference with your partner about the highlights of the guide and then, if you think chatting through your timeline with your photographer would be helpful-- do that! If I'm your photographer, let's set up a 30 minute consultation here.
Without further ado, here is my Wedding timeline guide for New York City Couples:
