It's my hot take that branding photos don’t have to feel like LinkedIn photos. Esepcially if you're in a profession where you want people to find you cool and relatable.

Lifestyle Branding with Brooklyn Stylist NY Fashion Geek
When Reginald—aka NY Fashion Geek—reached out to me to do a Day-in-the-Life branding session, I knew this wasn’t going to be your standard studio shoot. He’s a men’s stylist with incredible energy, sharp taste, and a mission to help guys “look fly” without losing their personality in the process.
So I took the same approach to his shoot that he takes with his clients: personal, confident, and completely style-forward. He often has a vintage flair in his own wardrobe, which really fits well with my nostalgic eye for photos-- I knew we would be a good artistic match.

Reg invited me into his Brooklyn home—where he works, lives, and brings his creative vision to life. And let me tell you… his style doesn’t stop at the closet. The way he curated his space, from the art on his walls to the textures of his couch, felt like walking into a midcentury design moodboard with a Brooklyn twist. The sun was shining into his apartment and all my midcentury dreams were coming true with stacked books and magazines tucked away in every corner.

Instead of staging something stiff, I directed the session like a mini-documentary, asking a series of questions while photographing Reg answering them.
We started where he actually works: his couch. We talked. He showed me his favorite art. I asked him to actually work—not fake it. I wanted these images to be a real portrait of who he is when he’s not “posing.” So he answered some emails.

Then, we did something a little different.
I asked him to take me on a real errand. Something he’d really do on a real day. We walked down the street together to his favorite shoe shop—the one he goes to when he needs to get his shoes tapped (and oh my goodness I learned what shoe tapping is and-- what?! how have I not been tapping my fancy shoes all my life?!). He greeted the owner like an old friend. We chatted the whole way. And I photographed him in that real-world, day-in-the-life kind of way that feels timeless and nostalgic, like a film still you keep thinking about days later. These photos of him laughing with the shoe repair man are some of my favorite. They were talking about how he's the only shoe guy left in Carroll Gardens and how he hopes rent won't push him out. Every NY owned small business with a brick and mortar knows the plight of staying in business.

Branding photos can be artistic. Branding photos should be storytelling. And your session doesn’t have to feel performative or stiff.

My approach to branding sessions is this: Yes, we’ll get a few solid shots you can use on your website or press kit. We'll make you cheese at the camera and give you some strong power poses that make you look like a bad ass...But more importantly—we’ll create something that shows your actual personality. Your work. Your vibe. The way your brand feels when people experience it. Reg is all nostalgia, a big chatter, and a hell of a well-dressed man. That's what we see in these photos and that is what makes them timeless.
His session felt like NYC, like fashion, like fun. Elevated but approachable. Just like him.
