Soumya and Jesse wanted to make sure their everyday rhythms were apart of their engagement session. So, like any photo session, I asked them how we could personalize their session. They told me they wanted their favorite at-home rituals to be in their photos: drinking tea together, baking cookies, snuggling on the couch, doing their Saturday morning crossword. So let me tell you all about Soumy and Jesse's at home engagement photos on the upper west side.
With the sunset pouring in, we photographed their rituals. I have a hunch some couples think that to have romantic engagement photos they have to be all over one another, but I think there's also something really sacred about photographing all your favorite Saturday activities where you're interacting, but not necessarily touching every second. When they look back at these photos years and years from now, they'll remember these rhythms with gratitude I think.
Romantic engagement photos at home-- would you ever do something like this?
All that to say, it was so lovely to join them at their upper west side apartment in the clouds to photograph them on their porch with the New York City skyline in the background. What a great view to wake up and sip tea to everyday!
What would your personalized engagement photo session look like?
Any activity NYC couples are into-- I love seeing what my creative artistic take on it can be. I love both giving an editorial approach and a Documentary-style engagement photography approach to these sessions in NYC. It's why engagement sessions are my favorite and why I think couples really like hiring me as their NYC engagement photographer--- they want something that's "them" but also out of the box, non-traditional and not as prim and perfect as their wedding day photos have to be.
